Schoolchildrens Panto Competition Hots Up!
SCHOOLCHILDREN are getting in the Christmas spirit by designing a dress for the Cresset panto fairy godmother! ON the hottest days of the year so far, the youngsters are turning their thoughts to snow, icicles and magic to come up with a costume for Heart FM breakfast show’s Abby Surgeon, who will star as the Spirit of the Rose in this year’s panto, Beauty and the Beast.

Mark Elliott, marketing manager at the Bretton venue in Peterborough, is visiting schools to talk about the festive entertainment, which also stars Bad Girls’ Kim Taylforth and The Bill’s Nicola Alexis. Mark said: “Their designs are so creative and imaginative that I cannot wait to see the winning design worn at our pantomime by Abby.”

This week Mark will be visiting Eyrescroft Primary and Parnwell Primary in Peterborough, New Road Primary in Whittlesey, Newton Primary in St Neots and Terrington St John in Wisbech. However the Design Abby’s Costume Competition is open to all children under the age of 16. All you have to do is send your design to: Design Abby’s Costume Competition, The Cresset, Rightwell, Bretton, Peterborough PE3 8DX, with your name, age, and address on the back of the entry.

Abby, who co-hosts the breakfast show, made a guest appearance in last year’s panto Snow White, and was so successful she is returning as a full-time cast member alongside famous faces from the world of TV drama. Back by popular demand, actress Kim Taylforth was a huge hit as the baddie in last year’s panto and is delighted to be returning in a similar role this Christmas plotting the downfall of Beauty, played by Nicola Alexis. Nicola is best known for her role as PC Ruby Buxton in ITV’s The Bill, but she has also starred in BBC’s Holby City, Doctors and EastEnders. Britain’s premier pantomime dame James Horne will be joined by actor Colin Ridgewell, who is perhaps best known for his role as BBC TV’s Grange Hill pupil Colin Brown.

In an effort to help audiences beat the credit crunch, bosses at The Cresset have announced it will offer tickets at 2008 prices – with an even cheaper deal for people who book early. Tickets booked before September 30th will be priced at £13.50 for adults, £12.25 for children and pensioners, £46 for a family of four, and groups of 10 or more will pay just £10 each.

For more information on booking for Beauty and the Beast this Christmas, call The Cresset box office on 01733 265705/01733 842500.
